The 12th President of the United States, Zachary Taylor Dollar is honored with this impressive Presidential Dollar, which appropriately enough, is the 12th release overall for this series.
Leading victorious battles during the Mexican-American war, Zachary Taylor was first a military hero before being elected President. However, he died only 16 months after assuming office, due to a serious illness.
The obverse of this coin features a portrait of Zachary Taylor as created by artist and sculptor Don Everhart and includes the inscriptions 'Zachary Taylor', 'In God We Trust', '12th President', and '1849 - 1850', which are the years of his term. The coin's reverse, also done by the same artist, displays the Statue of Liberty, and is the same design used on the entire Presidential Dollar series.
This proof coin is part of a very limited mintage produced by the San Francisco mint.
